Why the Darkness Can Only Take What You Give It, and How It Tricks You Into Giving It
The Battle Is Not What You've Been Told
Spiritual warfare, the battle of light and dark, empaths and narcissists: it all comes down to one law. The law of consent and free will.
We have been sold a picture of the war as two equal armies clashing in the heavens, and of ourselves as helpless bystanders begging for rescue. That picture keeps you afraid, and fear is exactly the door the darkness needs.
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." (Ephesians 6:12)
Paul was right that the fight is not with flesh and blood. But understand what that means. The person in front of you is not the enemy. The emptiness operating through them is. And that emptiness has rules it cannot break.
The Law: Nothing Is Taken That Isn't Given
The darkness cannot take anything that isn't given to it. That would violate our free will, spiritually speaking, and that, God will not allow.
From the very beginning, God placed the choice in human hands and refused to take it back:
"I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life." (Deuteronomy 30:19)
"Choose you this day whom ye will serve." (Joshua 24:15)
If God, who is all power, will not override your will, then nothing beneath God can either. Free will is not a loophole in creation. It is the floor of creation, and every spirit, light or dark, stands on it.
So the real question in every battle is never "how strong is the enemy?" It is: what have I agreed to?
Empty Vessels
The vessels that operate in the lower frequencies are literally empty vessels that have no source frequency running through them. They operate on programming and ego, with their own self-gain as their focus, and they envy those who do have the light.
Yeshua described exactly this condition:
"When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself." (Matthew 12:43–45)
Empty. Swept. Decorated on the outside. Paul called it "having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof" (2 Timothy 3:5). Jude called them "clouds without water" (Jude 1:12).
And notice: the house became empty through what was allowed in and what was given away. These are vessels who have given the darkness power over them. The emptiness is not an accident of birth. It is the fruit of consent, given again and again.
They are drawn to the light, but to covet it and take it. That is the oldest story there is:
"And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil." (John 3:19)
Their Only Weapon: Illusion
Because they cannot take, they have only one weapon. Illusion. They have to trick you into consenting to give them your energy.
Go back to the garden. The serpent never reached up, picked the fruit, and forced it into Eve's mouth. It couldn't. It had to talk. "Yea, hath God said…?" (Genesis 3:1). It had to make disobedience feel like her own discovery, her own idea.
Nothing has changed. Yeshua named the source plainly: "he is a liar, and the father of it" (John 8:44). And Paul warned that "Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light" (2 Corinthians 11:14). The darkness wears the costume of the light because it has no light of its own.
Manipulation and coercion are the favorite weapons of narcissists, and now you can see why. They are the only tools available to something that cannot take by force:
• Manipulation: if they can convince you it's all your idea, the consent looks freely given.
• Gaslighting: if they can make you doubt what you saw and felt, you stop trusting the discernment that would protect you.
• The trauma bond: when and if you stop giving them your light, they can hoover you back with the bond you have been convinced is your fault.
Every one of these is a request for your signature, disguised as something else.
The Mirror
This is why true cosmic mirrors, who show them who they truly are, send them running in the other direction, screaming their victimhood the whole way.
Scripture already told us they would:
"For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved." (John 3:20)
"But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light." (Ephesians 5:13)
A mirror does not attack. It simply refuses to distort. And to a vessel built on illusion, an undistorted reflection is unbearable. So they flee, and as they flee they rewrite the story. The one who exposed them becomes the abuser. The guilty play the victim.
Do not chase them to correct the record. The light does not need to win the argument. It only needs to keep shining.
Discernment
I see the game before they play their hand. I feel what they try to hide, especially the contempt. That's spiritual discernment at work.
Discernment is not suspicion and it is not paranoia. It is a trained sense:
"But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil." (Hebrews 5:14)
"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God." (1 John 4:1)
Illusion only works on the one who cannot see through it. Discernment is what makes the trick visible before you sign. You feel the contempt under the charm. You notice the hook inside the compliment. You recognize the guilt being handed to you that was never yours to carry.
And once you see it, you get to choose.
Testimony: When the Enemy Came for My Covenant
I don't teach this from theory. I teach it because I watched it happen in my own home.
Last year, my husband and I were apart. I was here; he was in Minnesota, at his lowest. That is exactly when the enemy moves: when a covenant is stretched thin and a soul is already weak.
The Holy Spirit told me a woman carried a Jezebel spirit before we ever encountered her in person. I called it out months before I fully knew what it meant. She didn't like that I had called her out. So she befriended me, and then set out to take everything I was and had, including my husband.
She had no light of her own, so she came in as a spirit of light. An imposter. Coveting my light, copying me as best she could, feeling superior and entitled to my place, and doing her best to convince my husband she belonged there. She never once was actually my friend. She never actually loved my husband.
She used his weaknesses, the open doors he was already battling: lust, shame, guilt, pride, envy, sloth, wrath. The seven deadly sins were the open doors she used to drive him over the edge, and almost to death, for her own gain.
He told her no. He told her he was a married man. Saying "no, I'm a married man" is saying I do not consent. She violated that boundary, got his flesh worked up so that it betrayed his spirit, and then asked him, "Do you want me to leave?" so he would truly believe it was all his fault.
That is manufactured consent. She baited him with sex and convinced him he wanted her. She made it his idea so he would blame himself. And he did. After that break in his psyche, he believed he actually wanted more, though after every interaction he felt even more unclean. As he described it, it literally felt like a drug.
In any court of law, and in God's court, that is not giving consent. But the enemy gaslit and coerced him into thinking he had. His spirit knew all along.
He blamed himself entirely until I asked him one question: who was the aggressor? I held up the mirror: the truth of who she really was, what she had done, how he had fallen, and why.
She had convinced him that he had fully given his consent. That's how the whole thing works. With the Sword of Truth, he revoked it.
She literally tried to get him to divorce me so she could take my place: my home, my church, my husband, everything. He never consented to that, but she sure tried, and she is still furious she failed. She wanted me to hate him and divorce him. But God had other plans.
"What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." (Mark 10:9)
When the Illusion Goes Public: Calling Evil Good
The darkness doesn't only work one relationship at a time. It works through people in positions of power, through media, institutions, and even pulpits, to shape the social mind: what is "socially acceptable," what everyone just knows. Once a lie becomes the crowd's common sense, it no longer has to trick you personally. The crowd does the gaslighting for it.
We were warned this would happen:
"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness." (Isaiah 5:20)
"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." (2 Timothy 4:3–4)
Look at what has been normalized. Divorce has become the expected answer to betrayal. If someone cheats, it's assumed to be the man's fault, because men always want sex and will always cheat if they can get away with it. That's what society assumes: the affair is always the man's fault, and the betrayed spouse should of course divorce him.
Notice what that script does. It erases the one who pursued, coerced, and manufactured consent. It hands all of the guilt to the one who was ensnared, which is exactly what the enemy wanted him to believe in the first place. And it tells the betrayed spouse that the righteous move is to finish the destruction the enemy started. The social mind does the work of the Jezebel spirit, and calls it empowerment.
That is calling evil good and good evil.
Standing by our covenant, the covenant the enemy tried to destroy, and overcoming adultery and all the betrayal it brought, through redemption and repentance through God, was mocked by the enemy. She laughed at him and called him weak, a coward, a liar. She mocked me, calling me mean, jealous, and envious, though that was her. She has absolutely nothing for me to be envious of.
Rather, she cannot stand that I love myself, and that my husband and I truly love and honor each other. She cannot stand that she was rebuked and banished, and that she lost the game she tried to put us in. She erupts in anger any time she sees our love on display.
She still tries to cast her spells and attempt her gaslighting from four thousand miles away. She still plays victim for the karma she's receiving. She's still using anyone who will buy her sob story, and refuses to face the demons she's sold her soul to.
It's not stopping us.
"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind." (Romans 12:2)
Revoking consent means revoking it from the crowd, too. The world's script for your life is not God's. When the culture tells you good is evil, you do not owe it your agreement.
Revoking Consent
I refused to consent to the projections. And that's the key.
If the darkness can only operate on what you have agreed to, then deliverance is not a battle you have to win by strength. It is a signature you take back.
"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." (James 4:7)
"Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you." (Luke 10:19)
I have revoked my consent to the darkness, and been delivered from evil.
The psalmist walked through the valley of the shadow of death (Psalm 23:4). I walked OUT OF the valley of death declaring "you have no power over me." And the "devil" that is in the vessels who have given the darkness power over them and made themselves my enemy cannot withstand the full Armor of God I wear.
What Revoking Consent Looks Like
Revoking consent is not a feeling. It is a set of choices you make, often while the hoover is still pulling at you. Here is what it looks like on an ordinary day.
1. Name the lie out loud. The illusion survives in the dark of your own head. Say it plainly: "This is not my fault. This is not my idea. I do not agree." A lie spoken into the light loses its grip.
2. Ask who the aggressor is. Trace the guilt you're carrying back to its source. If it was handed to you, hand it back. Guilt that was manufactured for you is not repentance. It is a leash.
3. Stop arguing your reality. You do not owe the darkness a debate. Every explanation, every defense, every attempt to make them understand is more energy poured into an empty vessel.
4. Cut off the supply. The hoover only works if there is something to pull on. Silence is an answer. Distance is an answer. "And whosoever shall not receive you… shake off the dust of your feet" (Matthew 10:14). "Neither cast ye your pearls before swine" (Matthew 7:6).
5. Close the open doors. The enemy came in through doors that were already open. Lust, shame, pride, envy, wrath: whatever it used to get in, bring it before God and shut it. Revoked consent without a closed door is an invitation to be tricked again.
6. Expect the counterattack. When the supply stops, the victim story starts. Let them tell it. You are not required to correct the record, only to keep walking.
The Armor and the Sword of Truth
"Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness… Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." (Ephesians 6:14–17)
Look at what that armor is made of. Truth. Righteousness. Faith. The word of God. Not one piece of it is a weapon of force. Every piece is a weapon against illusion.
In the end, the Sword of Truth is our greatest weapon against the darkness. A lie cannot survive contact with it. And standing in that truth of God with righteousness as my shield, I fear no evil, for God is always with me, and in me.
"[God's] truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night." (Psalm 91:4–5)
The darkness stands no chance.
Deliverance Without Idols
I had never heard of a deliverance ministry until I was already apparently starting one, and truthfully most are crap. The blood of Jesus doesn't do shit if you are idol worshipping.
You cannot cast out darkness while you are still bowing to a vessel, even one that previously embodied the Holy Spirit. Formulas, rituals, and names shouted like incantations are just another form of handing your power to something outside of God.
"I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images." (Isaiah 42:8)
"I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour." (Isaiah 43:11)
God alone saved us, and told us that was the path being set: of redemption. Well, we've done that. With God alone.
Now, it's on each individual soul to choose to cast out the darkness within.
Now Turn the Mirror Around
If you have read this far picturing someone else as the empty vessel, stop. You're doing exactly what the darkness wants.
"And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?" (Matthew 7:3)
No one in this story is untouched. The enemy did not break in through a wall. It walked in through doors that were already open. Every one of us has signed for the darkness somewhere: a lie we believed about our worth, a sin we kept feeding, a wound we made into an identity.
Even "empath" can become a costume. If you wear it to prove you are the good one, then the label itself has become an idol, and the ego is still on the throne. The light does not need a title.
So ask yourself, honestly, before God:
• Where have I agreed to something I knew was a lie?
• What open door am I still guarding instead of closing?
• Whose light have I coveted?
• Where have I played the victim to avoid the mirror?
The same law that frees you from them convicts you of yourself. Consent cuts both ways.
The Darkness Within and the Void Between
The darkness within is what we have chosen to believe about ourselves. Every lie you agreed to about your worth, your guilt, your smallness, is a signature still on file. Revoking consent outward means nothing if you keep consenting inward.
It's not until you realize you know nothing, but you are loved, and you are light, that God can show you who you truly are.
"And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know." (1 Corinthians 8:2)
"But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand." (Isaiah 64:8)
You can only be shown if you remain malleable in that tension of in between. The void between the old and new. The real dark night of the soul.
That void is not the enemy's territory. It is the potter's wheel. The emptiness the darkness exploits in others is the same emptiness God fills in you, if you will stop grasping, stop defending the old self, and stay soft long enough to be remade.
This is the whole war, start to finish: the darkness can only take what you give it, and God will only fill what you surrender. Both run on consent. Choose.
A Decree of Revoked Consent
Speak this aloud. Speak it as many times as it takes.
I revoke my consent to the darkness.
Every agreement I made in illusion, I cancel now in truth. Every lie I believed about who I am, I return to the father of lies. Every guilt that was manufactured for me, I hand back to the one who made it.
I close every open door the enemy used to get in. I name them before God and I shut them.
No vessel may take what I do not give, and I give nothing to the darkness. My light belongs to God alone.
I walk out of the valley. You have no power over me.
I stand in the truth of God, with righteousness as my breastplate and truth as my shield. I fear no evil, for God is with me, and in me.
I remain clay in the Potter's hands: emptied of the old, open to the new, and filled only by God.
So it is decreed.
