Matthew 23:37

Matthew 23:37 (NKJV)

"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!"

When Yeshua wanted to tell Jerusalem what God's heart actually feels like, he did not reach for a king on a throne. He reached for a MOTHER.

A hen gathering her chicks under her wings. That was his image — not borrowed poetry, but recognition. He KNEW that heart because he learned it from Her. You do not describe a love that tender unless you have lived under those wings yourself (and if you have, you never mistake it for anything else).

And notice the grief in it: "but you were not willing." The Mother does not drag her children in. She OPENS her wings. They have to come. That is still the invitation — come home to the heart that has been gathering all along.
